Version 1.0

Smack Talk 1.0 launched on 27 August 2026. The Steam post is short and specific: almost a year after the first announcement, thirty-ish Early Access updates, two new themed fighters (Power Ranger and Kaiju), a city stage, launch sale pricing, and a thank-you to the people who followed a first-game studio. This page is what that package means if you play, not a press-release rewrite.

If you last touched the game in November 2025, you do not recognize this client. EA opened with a smaller roster, friends-only energy, and a mic that could die when someone left. 1.0 is 27 fighters, 10 stages plus variants, 1–8 player online PvP, team mode, lobby browser, text chat, Mac/Linux/Deck support, and localization into several languages (this wiki covers English, French, German, and Spanish). The getting started guide assumes that client.

The video on this page is the original Steam launch vlog, not a 1.0 cinematic. Keep that distinction in your head: the emotion is the same studio, the feature list is not. For the trailer, use the home page embed. For how the roster actually grew, use patch history.

What 1.0 added on the day

  • Power Ranger and Kaiju — themed kits with jokes and references the studio called out explicitly. Overlay-first until the wiki has more film. They sit in the New band of the character tier list.
  • City stage — extra sightlines for those two. Add it to your mental map alongside jail, lava, pirate ship, wrestling arena, chalkboard, barn, and the rooftop/island staples in stages.
  • Sale and bundle — 35% off for two weeks, extra 10% with the Shrimp Game: Overkrill bundle. Smack Pack with Smack Studio still exists from the accidental-Discord collab.
  • A promise of more patches — 1.0 is a full release, not a content freeze.

A “Quick patch” immediately before launch added achievements, a fix so new players could join after the host started, ultimate cancel tweaks, and Portuguese / German / Russian language support. French, Spanish, and Chinese had already landed. If your phrases feel odd in translation, the studio warned that they hand-wrote lines around the recognizer.

What 1.0 is not

It is not a ranked season. It is not a silent fighter with a voice skin. It is not finished in the sense of “never another character.” It is not local-only; online PvP is the point, with optional teams. It is not Roblox, does not ship redeem codes, and does not need a script catalog.

Achievements are mostly hidden and named after fighters, which is why the roster could be reconstructed from Steam. Unlock them by playing, not by hunting a codes page that should not exist.

How to come back after EA

  1. Re-grant mic permissions. Mac and Linux rules still apply — mic setup.
  2. Relearn two mains. Stun numbers moved all spring. Chef and Cowboy both ate nerfs and still play.
  3. Cap lobbies at four until you like Ranger and Kaiju.
  4. Read how to play if you only remember the four-player marketing line. Eight is real and optional.
  5. Skim the review if you are deciding whether 1.0 is the buy point. For most people who wanted a voice party fighter, it is.

1.0 is the moment the joke became a catalog. Twenty-seven vocabularies, ten stages, a city, and a studio that still answers bug threads. Shout accordingly.

What to tell a friend who bounced in EA

Tell them the lobby browser exists, teams exist, eight is optional, Mac/Linux/Deck are real with mic caveats, and the roster is no longer a dozen jokes. Tell them Chef still chops and Cowboy still shoots. Tell them the mic can still die, and that mic setup is shorter than their rant. Do not tell them it is a ranked scene. Do not tell them in-game voice is good.

If they ask whether 1.0 is “done,” quote the launch post: more updates planned. If they ask whether to wait, point at the review. Waiting only makes sense if you need a mute toggle or a console SKU. Neither is promised here.

Play the city stage once as a tourist, then go back to island if recoveries felt new. New geometry is not a skill check you owe the marketing page. The catalog is the 1.0 pitch. The mic is the 1.0 tax. Pay both, or pass.
