Updates Hub

Smack Talk’s update trail is public on Steam news, and it is unusually honest. Weekly patches, a rollback, mic bugs, a price hike, community fighters, then a 1.0 drop with two new characters and a city stage. This hub points at two pages: version 1.0 for the launch package, and patch history for the Early Access slog that created the 27-fighter roster.

Dates you should tattoo on a sticky note:

  • 26 November 2025 — Early Access. Voice platform fighter, small roster, friends-first energy.
  • Weekly, then biweekly 2025–2026 — Doctor, Pigeon, Santa, Cowboy, Duck, Alien, Diver, Pirate, Fish, Fast Food, Macho Man, Barn, Teacher, Cat, Rat. Linux, Mac, Deck, lobby browser, teams, eight players.
  • 27 August 2026 — Full release. Power Ranger, Kaiju, city stage, 35% launch discount, Shrimp Talk bundle.

How to read studio posts

Monchii / Dedzix writes like a Discord pin. If a patch says they lost track of balance numbers, believe them. If a patch says Snap Steam breaks mics, believe them. If a patch says in-game voice chat is choppy and you should use Discord, use Discord. Fan wikis that polish that away do you a disservice.

The game left Early Access. It is a live 1.0 client, not a pre-launch teaser. Future updates are still promised. Treat 1.0 as a live 27-fighter build, not a finished competitive season. When a new name appears, it will land on the roster page and then on the character tier list after people actually play it.

What players should do after a patch

  1. Hold Shift. Overlays rename lines.
  2. Skim patch notes for your two mains.
  3. Re-lab one confirm from combos. Stun numbers move more than animations.
  4. If voice broke, do not assume it is the patch’s character — run mic setup.
  5. If a new stage shipped, open stages before you random-select it.

Price history is part of the update story. EA sat near $3.99 USD, later $5.99, with launch intro discounts. Bundles exist with Smack Studio (accidental Discord cousins) and Shrimp Game: Overkrill. None of that changes how you shout Fireball, but it does change when your friends finally buy in.

Use community links for the Discord and Steam news hub. Use the review if you want a buyer’s summary instead of a changelog. Then go back into a four-player lobby. Patches are only real if you speak them.

Cadence of a small studio

Weekly EA was a promise to be taken seriously. Biweekly was a confession that weekly was eating the codebase. Thematic drops (High Seas, school week, 1.0 city) are the current rhythm. If you log in every night expecting a fighter, you will be disappointed. If you log in after a Steam post, you will get a new vocabulary.

That rhythm is why this hub exists as two pages instead of a live feed. Version 1.0 is the identity document. Patch history is the diary. Together they explain why Cowboy feels different in January versus April, and why your friend’s Duck combo suddenly needs faster cadence. When the next named update lands, start on the 1.0 page only if it changes the product definition (ranked, offline, console). Otherwise append it to history and go play.
