Smack Talk Tier Lists
Ranks that respect lobby size, microphones, and the 1.0 roster.
A Smack Talk tier list that ignores the microphone is a Smash list in a costume. Phrase length, recognizer reliability, and eight-player chaos move fighters more than raw damage numbers. This hub splits the argument into two pages: the character tier list for people who already know the roster, and beginner picks for night one.
We are a fan wiki. There is no official competitive circuit. Ranks below are editorial, built from patch direction (who got nerfed, who got movement on windup), public videos, and how kits behave in FFA versus four-player rooms. When Power Ranger and Kaiju have more film, they will move. Until then they sit in a new-kit band on the main list.
How to read our ranks
- S — Changes how the lobby is played. Projectiles or platforms that steal stocks at low cost.
- A — Winning kits that still have a hole (recovery, phrase length, or FFA weakness).
- B — Honest mids. Fine if you can talk, worse if the room is noisy.
- C — Party specialists. Hilarious, inconsistent, or hungry for specific stages.
- New — 1.0 arrivals without enough public match footage.
Lobby size is a hidden axis. Cowboy and Chef rise in eights. Wolf and Cop rise in fours. Barn and Santa rise when nobody is trying. If your friends only play unranked chaos, do not treat an S rank as a homework assignment — treat how to win as the real list.
Balance philosophy you can actually use
Monchii has said new characters often ship the same day with light playtest. The big April 2026 sweep then touched almost everyone: Cowboy draw damage, Chef stun, Magical Girl knockback, Duck hitboxes, Wolf dashes, Fast Food damage. That is why a week-old gut feel can be wrong. Re-read patch notes when a main “randomly” feels worse.
Voice localization also matters. A kit that is easy in English can be awkward in French or German if the overlay line is longer. Rank on your client’s wording, not on a YouTuber’s English shouts.
Use the players hub for kit identity, combos for confirms, and the voice phrase sheet so you are ranking fighters you can actually say. A theoretical S character you refuse to recover with is a D character in your hands.
The two child pages disagree on purpose. Beginners should not copy the FFA S tier if they cannot yet fast-fall. Experts should not pretend Chef is hard. Read both, then lock two names.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Smack Talk questions.
Is this an official Smack Talk ranking?
No. It is a fan list. Confirm overlays in-game and watch patch history after every update.
Why is there a separate beginner list?
Because phrase comfort and recovery confidence matter more than damage on night one. Open beginner picks.
Will Power Ranger sit at the top?
Not automatically. New kits start in a holding band on the character tier list until the room has film.
